Welcome to Upper Egypt Media Mandara Forum in Assiut, 15-17 November!

The mission of this event is to help strengthen local journalism in Upper Egypt as a way to counter media centralization in Cairo.
Upper Egypt, with its population of over 30 million, has for the longest time remained in a media shadow, which effectively makes it difficult for the local population to affect political developments in their region in a constructive way.
At this critical time in Egypt’s history, we see creation of strong local media as one step towards a more democratic and inclusive society.
What happens in Assiut on 15-17 November?
50 young journalists are brought to the city of Assiut in Upper Egypt for a three-day forum on journalism, with trainers and lecturers from Egypt and Sweden. Consisting of panel discussions, workshops and lectures on various topics within the field of journalism, the aim of the forum is to improve the skill sets of the participants, inspire them and create a vision for the future of journalism in Upper Egypt.
What happens afterwards?
The participants will continue to work within the newly created network, coached by editors from Mandara Portal and EMAJMagazine, where their media pieces will be published.
By the end of the project, 50 journalists will be better equipped to work within the field of local and regional journalism in Upper Egypt.
Who can participate?
Young journalists from UpperEgypt, ages 20-30. Applicants with a connection to the area will be given priority but outsiders are welcome to apply.
تدعو مؤسسة المندرة للإعلام شباب الصحفيين والعاملين في مجال الإعلام والمدونين وطلاب الإعلام في الصعيد للتقديم على أول مندرة لها على أرض أسيوط في الفترة من 15-17 نوفمبر 2014. المندرة تأتي بتعاون مصري أوروبي بين مؤسسة المندرة وبين الأكاديمية الأورومتوسطية لشباب الصحفيين (إيماج) ومقرها السويد وبدعم من المعهد السويدي.
على مدار ثلاثة أيام، تناقش “مندرة الصعيد للإعلام” الإعلام المحلي في مصر والسويد، إضفاء الطابع الدولي على القصص المحلية، الإعلام المجتمعي وآليات التأكد من الأخبار، أنماط الإعلام الجديد من صحافة الفيديو والإنفوجراف وصحافة المحتوى والخدمات، السلامة المهنية للصحفيين المحليين وغيرها من الموضوعات. تهدف المندرة إلى دعم الصحافة المحلية في صعيد مصر وكسر المركزية الإعلامية في القاهرة من خلال مشروعها الإليكتروني “بوابة المندرة” الذي أطلقته في 2013 كبوابة إعلامية مستقلة في صعيد مصر.
